2013: Polar Bear Splash.....huge "wake"/party for aftermath of demolition of boardwalk and having survived the wrath of Hurricane Sandy
2012: Polar Bear Splash and SUPERBOWL GIANTSSUNDAY. Giants in it again this year! HUGE crowd/sea of blue for tonight's game. Wonderful spirit for a great cause, the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Giants beat New England, once again. Super day!
2011: Polar Bear Splash 2011
2010: ONCE AGAIN, THOUSANDS of swimmers braved the frigid ocean waters and freezing air to support this worthy cause during this nice sunny, but FRIGID day.
2009: Great LARGE crowd Apparent attempt to break the Guiness Book of world records for this kind of event. I would guess they achieved the goal! 2008: You will notice that there was a definite GIANTS theme to the "attire" on many of the brave swimmers and their supporters (in every sense). This was SUPERBOWL SUNDAY, and I am sure the spirit of everyone there helped propel the New York GIANTS to VICTORY later that evening!

This was my 6th year in a row photographing this great event. Record crowds..reported at over 20,000 participants and $500,000 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. It felt somewhat like a huge "wake" for... the destroyed boardwalk and devastation Long Beach has experienced.
Over the years I have photographed many participants some of whom had brought posters of recently lost relatives, friends, etc. As I was rushing about the crowded beach yesterday, I spotted a large face on this poster, so I immediately began to shoot it. While doing so, this young lady jumped into the shot. I then asked her if this poster was in memory of a lost relative/friend, etc. She immediately replied that it was to "honor" Richard L. “Dick” Yuengling, Jr, the current (living) owner of Yuengling Beer Brewery! Apparently, she and her friends were quite devoted to this product.
